Wednesday

flower nest.

a tiny nest made by a recently discovered and rare type of bee. built by plastering together petals from the flower onobrychis viciifolia. each nest usually houses a single egg and is a half inch long.

Wednesday

the library skirt.

i'm loving this skirt created by textile designer extraordinaire heather ross. she made it for an event held at the nypl about designers/crafters gaining inspiration from the library stacks. and boy did she ever. the image is a drawing of a cross section of the library's underground stacks, showing in great detail how an enormous collection of books could be stored, organized, and made easily accessed by all. it even shows the pulley system that was used to carry the books from deep underground! so, so cool.

Monday

play freebird.

i wish that this was longer so i could have it on all day in the background while i'm working.

Friday

the catherine collection.

check out these note cards that i designed for working class!

Tuesday

diversity of life and culture.

"this is a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings. we are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours." - jimmy carter

the voyager golden record is so beautiful. if i was an e.t. i would think that earth was pretty great.

Sunday

lost & found.

the vivian maier story has inspired me to begin to scan the some one hundred 23/4" x 23/4" glass slides that i have of an unknown family. the only information that i can figure is that they seem to be from florida and they range from 1951 to 1953. many of them are of vacations to cuba and miami and others are of various family members on front yards, in swimming pools and beautiful gardens. i got them about 5 years ago at a stoop sale in philadelphia. finally scanning them, and actually having them scan fairly well, is very exciting to me. i've always wanted to utilize them somehow, but they've always felt 'off-limits' and too precious. maybe scanning and sharing will be a good start.

Monday

winter-time yeti fun!

this summer designed a whole series of greeting cards that feature two best friend yetis hanging out together. i wanted to use the 'snow-yeti' as my christmas card so i got about a million/billion printed. i only know, like, 15 people so i'm going to sell off the rest! so if you want to say ''seasons greetings'' with two cute monsters please check them out!

Friday

the chorus.

the amazing chorus of ps22 doing lady gaga's let's dance. i'm a total sucker for stuff like this. for a long time i was obsessed with the langley school's music project {i still might be.}

Wednesday

cool clutter.

the cave [86.5" x 114.5"]

Wednesday

school of design.

my ghost horse dress is in the new scad catalogue. pretty neat!

Monday

non-required reading.

my sister got me this book and it's great. i mean with an introduction by judy blume, edited by dave eggers and a cover designed by barry mcgee, it's pretty hard to go wrong.

Thursday

tour de face.

this years tour de france is almost at an end. it's pretty much the only sporting event that i care about, maybe because it does only last a month. i'm so excited to watch the finale this weekend. go garmin! go thor!
