je ne peux pas attendre.

oooh! first glimpse of audrey tautou as coco chanel. it doesn't come out until 2009 but i hope that it's good. i know that everyone and their mother hated factory girl, but i liked it so as long as it's better than that i think it's good to go.

i carried a watermelon???

i drew this today for a dirty dancing obsessed pug owner. i think that it came out pretty alright.

i hate perfume.

if 5 years ago you would have told me that one day i would give two blips about perfume i would have called you nuts. however, for the past 3 years i've been a loyal burberry user {both brit and london} and this summer i'm all about tom ford's black orchid. when i wear perfumes now that i started wearing years ago, it brings back strong memories of that time period. scent and memory are intensely connected, and that's one of the things that perfumer christopher brosius of i hate perfume, evokes with his own scents; the experience of a certain place and time. with descriptions like "the salty breath of the breeze off the mediterranean, driftwood, rocks covered with seaweed and the smell of old leather suitcases." and "a field of untouched new fallen snow, hand knit woolen mittens covered with frost, a hint of frozen forest & sleeping earth.", you can really feel the warm breezes and the chill in the air. i think that at the beach, 1966 might be my next perfume purchase - "you walk into the surf as the waves break on the shore and, bending down to touch the surf, you notice the smell of your warm skin and of the salt water that seems so cold by comparison. it has just the faintest hint of watermelon rind…"

Tuesday

mellow?

i think i want a pair of yellow jeans. is that crazy? these are from forever21 and only $20.

opera.

these beautifully atmospheric pictures from bill henson were taken in the dark of people at the paris opera. i love the solemn looks on their faces. last year when i was in berlin, we went to see the marriage of figaro at the state opera. it was sung in italian with german sur-titles and even though i knew the basic story, it was a little hard to follow. i think that i spent at least 15 minutes looking like the girl in the first shot.

Monday

day dreamin'

it's cold and rainy and windy and just generally dreary outside in philadelphia today so right now i'm dreaming of a beach get-a-way in greece. this photo from flickr user adamos maxius captures my day dream perfectly. sigh.

lorem ipsum dolor.

after watching the helvetica documentary this weekend i'm trying my own type designing skills out by finally signing up with fontstruct. fontstruct is free and lets you create fonts out of geometrical shapes, which are arranged in a grid pattern, like tiles or bricks. once you're done building it generates high-quality true type fonts that you can use in any mac or windows application. i'm still working on my first, if it comes out well i'll post it!

and then there's also the fontifier which turns your own handwriting into a mac and windows compatible font for only 9$. too bad my handwriting looks like chicken-scratch! here is my handwriting font preview. i think that it might need a little perfecting!
