"the softness and fragility of baby animals caused us the same intense pain."

"if i can talk to someone for just five minutes, five vital minutes, i feel i can carry on the myth of being a full person, but any longer and i would be shown up as an empty, worthless nothing… all colorless and shrinking, invisible." - anthony perkins

i could even find it in my heart

parable.

"those thinkers in whom all stars move in cyclic orbits are not the most profound: whoever looks into himself as into vast space and carries galaxies in himself also knows how irregular all galaxies are; they lead into the chaos and labyrinth of existence." - nietzsche, the gay science

Wednesday
departure.

"then i have crystal shoes. i have instructions for the public to take off your shoes and, with naked feet, put on the two crystal shoes, close your eyes, don’t move, and make your departure. i’m talking about a mental, not physical, departure. so the public can enter certain states of mind helped by the material itself. material is very important for me. i use crystals, human hair, copper, iron. the materials already have a certain energy." - marina abramovic
this is a theme i've been working with and thinking a lot about; the ability for {in my case} garments to be imbued with a kind of magical energy through the use of materials {silk, horsehair and uranium glass} and the time and intention of the artist.

Friday
the sublime.

"whereas the beautiful is limited, the sublime is limitless, so that the mind in the presence of the sublime, attempting to imagine what it cannot, has pain in the failure, but pleasure in contemplating the immensity of the attempt"
p.s. this is my computer desktop!
p.p.s. i passed my review. thanks for the good viiiiiibes dudes.

Thursday
never nothingness.

a thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
its loveliness increases;
it will never pass into nothingness;
but still will keep a bower quiet for us,
and a sleep full of sweet dreams,
and health, and quiet breathing.

but still will keep a bower quiet for us,

Tuesday
diversity of life and culture.
"this is a present from a small, distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts and our feelings. we are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours." - jimmy carter

the voyager golden record is so beautiful. if i was an e.t. i would think that earth was pretty great.
Wednesday
look now, look again.
“have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. do not now look for the answers. they cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. it is a question of experiencing everything. at present you need to live the question. perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.” rainer maria rilke

"nature's simplest structural system in the universe is the tetrahedron. the regular tetrahedron does not fill all-space by itself. the octahedron and tetrahedron complement one another to fill all space. together they produce the simplest, most powerful structural system in the universe." - buckminster fuller

i think that this is a shape/theme that is going to pop up a lot in my current work.

love & death.

"I think if it's not magical, it's not going to happen, because all the other solutions I see around me - religious solutions, scientific solutions, intellectual solutions- you know, everything is too little too late and not good enough." - woody allen
hey guys! sorry for being an absent blogger this week. i've been buckling down with school stuff in order to prepare for my graduate review on friday. i'm in the beginning stages of working on my thesis project, the premise of which is pretty well summed up by my man woody.

happy earth day.

depended on how I am and what I do...
How would I be?

Sunday
i think he was a little amazed.

last night i got together with a few fans and newbies to watch the grey gardens adaptation. did you get to see it? did you love it? hate it? as a superfan i thought that they did a pretty good job summing up the relationship between the two edies. although some parts seemed stretched a bit thin and i could not suspend belief enough to not think that it was drew barrymore the whole time. i'm interested to hear others opinions, so take my poll in the sidebar!
