i also went to see the marina abramovic retrospective at the moma. i had to rush through it because i got lost getting there {a-doy} and wanted to also get to soho in time to check out team gallery and the drawing center, before they closed. even though i had such a short time i still stood mesmerized at her performance, which you can watch live here. i wish that i had enough time to stick around and participate. anyway, the show was amazing and i can't stop thinking about it.

Tuesday
storm tharp.

while i was in nyc last week i made a point to go check out the whitney biennial. overall there wasn't too much that i was excited about. that is, except for the series of paintings by storm tharp, which i really really like. a lot. unfortunately they were placed in a room with marianne vitale berating the art audience via video, which was both annoying and attention getting; so these paintings probably didn't get as much eye time as they should have.
Saturday
mono no aware!

my amazingly amazing friend steven is hosting the third installment of his mono no aware film fest this sunday, november 29th {tomorrow!} at the lumenhouse in brooklyn, ny. mono no aware is an international film event that includes super8mm or 16mm film format as part of that presentation. in previous years 16 film was blended with dance performance, super8 with live spoken word/audience involvement, & multi-projections with live jazz/musical devices. it is super cool and neat and fun and FREE and you should check it out.

whirwind.
this has been a wonderfully busy trip already and it's about to get a little bit more fast paced. i'm heading to nyc today!
Monday
hell of a town.
this past weekend i actually went to new york! i figured that with my moving down south so soon, i'd better take advantage of nyc's proximity one last time. so me and my friend mike flem packed up our bikes and braved the chinatown bus on saturday morning. the theme of the day was "stress free" and aside from a minor accident, the "no plan" plan worked out wonderfully. we checked out the new museum, saw the repainted keith haring mural, hung out with our ridiculously good looking dutch friends, rode across the brooklyn and williamsburg bridges, saw the david byrne building installation, and ate at caravan of dreams with our friend vegan steven. it was my last new york trip for quite a while and it was a good one.

Wednesday
your house.

artist olafur eliasson created the book your house; a laser-cut paper rendering of his house in 85:1 scale encompassing 454 pages. he's got a big show up at moma and ps1 right now, although i don't know if this book is included, if not it should be!

Thursday
two more.
two more shows in new york that i would love to see. thankfully i should be able to get them all in during one weekend!
cai guo-qiang at the guggenheim. i saw video from his 'explosion events' while in berlin last year and as soon as i saw the words 'gun powder drawings', i knew that it had to be the same person. the videos were really beautiful and we watched them many times over.
his installations look to be pretty awe-inspiring as well.

the other show is at moma's PS1. entitled 'wack!: art and the feminist revolution'. the exhibition spans the period of 1965 to 1980 and includes 120 artists and artist groups.
both shows are up until the middle of may so i've got time.
