the future is bright.

Friday

networkin'.

i'm spending all of this morning {aaaand probably most of the afternoon} at a career fair. it's probably going to be hell on earth, but i have a feeling that something good will come from it {mostly because my magic 8 ball says so}.

in related news read this nyt article about how unpaid internships are unlawful!

i'm pretty convinced that gif-art is the way of the future.

Wednesday

siggi's girl.

i think i'm in love with siggi eggertsson. he's from iceland, but lives in berlin and i've been to berlin, so we already have that in common. he's very talented and clever and maybe one day we'll get married. i'm going to go write cake eggertsson all over my notebooks!

Thursday

Monday

cake un-ltd.

i spent most of last night searching through job sites looking at available surface design positions and desired qualifications and i got so so excited and so so scared! i have a meeting with my advisor this afternoon to talk about my classes and just how i can learn everything i want/need to while i'm here in grad school. all this thinking about post-graduation has me wishing for some nice business cards to hand out to future employers...but what to put on it???

pattern enthusiast?
creative thinker?
color lover?
future surface designer extraordinaire?
i'm really nice and cool and i'll draw beautiful flowers and other stuff for you if you'd like?

hm, maybe that's too wordy.

{i forget
where i found
this best and
most thorough
business card
ever...}

Sunday

pica pica.

one for sorrow
two for joy

three for a girl and

four for a boy

five for silver

six for gold

seven is a secret never to be told

eight is a wish and

nine is a kiss

ten is a bird you must not miss.

seeing a single magpie is bad luck. to ward off misfortune say this rhyme or greet him with "hello mr. magpie, how is your wife?".
{two magpie drawings from the feather book}

Thursday

{i have the image

or where i found it!}

Sunday

they don't weaken, no matter what.

i was feeling a bit afraid that with school and work and then general enjoyment of life, i would find myself slacking on this lil blog here. and i don't want that. i think that it has really helped me find a lot of inspiration in a lot of different places. it's also become a bit of a visual diary. i look back and remember why i posted certain things, how i got to certain places. i love that, it's important. therefore, in the spirit of tricking myself into doing things i like anyway, i have switched this site to it's own stream-lined domain. you are now looking at sailthouforth.com! much more grown-up, no more nasty 'blogspot'. this way i have a little something invested here and will not let it go by the wayside. i promise.

Monday

work life.

only two more weeks left as an 'architectural layout designer' in philadelphia and then it's onwards to being a poor grad student in savannah! it's been 4 years since i was last in school and i'm so excited about starting classes again. but what i'm {secretly} most excited about is starting fresh with a new apartment all to myself. i can't wait to start decorating it!

Wednesday

when the revolution comes...

according to the national endowment for the arts, more americans identify their primary occupation as artist than as lawyer, doctor, police officer or farm worker. drawing from the census, the endowment has compiled what it bills as the first nationwide profile of professional artists in the 21st century - nearly two million americans said their primary employment was in jobs that the census defines as artists’ occupations.

overall, the median income that artists reported in 2005 was $34,800 — $42,000 for men and $27,300 for women. over all, artists make more than the national median income which is $30,100. artists are more highly educated, but earn less than other professionals with the same level of schooling and now represent 1.4 percent of the labor force, or nearly as many people as the active and reserve armed forces.
