Monday

party on!

kris chau is running a '15dollaholla!' sale where up until september 7th, you can request any drawing that you want (black&white/8.5x11) for 15 bucks! this wayne's world homage is what she did for me! i'm so excited to hang it in my new house!

Friday

be my b.

happy birthday my love.

Thursday

ginzer.

etching by kiki smith. it's been quite a few years since i did an etching, but i've been thinking about it lately.

Tuesday

louise bourgeois.

'art is a guarantee of sanity. that is the most important thing i have said.'

eternity.

have i mentioned before that all of my friends are geniuses?

mike fleming and alicia eggert are debuting their Eternity piece (along with other work related to time) for one night only - next friday in philadelphia at progressive sharing. the exhibition will last exactly 300 minutes. Eternity, which is written with the hands of 30 clocks, will last only one split second. i can't be there, but you should go see it fall into place at exactly 8PM!

Wednesday

departure.

"then i have crystal shoes. i have instructions for the public to take off your shoes and, with naked feet, put on the two crystal shoes, close your eyes, don’t move, and make your departure. i’m talking about a mental, not physical, departure. so the public can enter certain states of mind helped by the material itself. material is very important for me. i use crystals, human hair, copper, iron. the materials already have a certain energy." - marina abramovic

this is a theme i've been working with and thinking a lot about; the ability for {in my case} garments to be imbued with a kind of magical energy through the use of materials {silk, horsehair and uranium glass} and the time and intention of the artist.

Tuesday

girl of my dreams.

this past weekend i treated myself to the new issue of lula. and how could i not seeing as it was complied exactly for me. i swear it had to of been! an interview with yayoi kusama {with accompanying horse photo}, joanna newsom in that dream of a marc jacobs dress {a double whammy}, an ode to shelley duvall, a little bit of darger, and a salute to strawberry shortcake {!!!} all wrapped up with their always amazing editorials that make me want to run away {in a good way}. luv u lula.

Friday

networkin'.

i'm spending all of this morning {aaaand probably most of the afternoon} at a career fair. it's probably going to be hell on earth, but i have a feeling that something good will come from it {mostly because my magic 8 ball says so}.

in related news read this nyt article about how unpaid internships are unlawful!

Wednesday

time. presence. performance. duration.

relation in time, 1977 {with ulay}

relation in time, 2010 {reperformance}

i also went to see the marina abramovic retrospective at the moma. i had to rush through it because i got lost getting there {a-doy} and wanted to also get to soho in time to check out team gallery and the drawing center, before they closed. even though i had such a short time i still stood mesmerized at her performance, which you can watch live here. i wish that i had enough time to stick around and participate. anyway, the show was amazing and i can't stop thinking about it.

Tuesday

$/$$

after spending a week looking at art that cost thousands to millions of dollars, it's really refreshing to see great work that is totally affordable. both of these posters, by eleanor grosch and wayne pate respectively, are hand screenprinted and both are only $40. seems almost criminal!

Sunday

how much art can you take?

so i've returned from art basel miami with no money, lots of blisters and about 500 pictures! we went to 6 fairs {art basel, it ain't, pulse, nada, pool and aqua} and so, so many galleries/shows/openings. we saw gang gang dance play at a recreation of max fish and kid sister play poolside at a swanky hotel. i ate some pretty good food {where are all the fancy vegetarian restaurants?!} and stepped into the ocean. mostly i looked at art and thought about art and looked at art and wrote down notes about art and looked at art and talked about art and looked at a lot of art.

Tuesday

vĂ¡monos!

tomorrow i'm heading down to miami for art basel! it's my first time going and i have no idea what to expect, except to be really excited and really exhausted. i'll be gone until saturday, but i might do a little phonebloggin. yay!
