Tuesday

louise bourgeois.

'art is a guarantee of sanity. that is the most important thing i have said.'

Thursday

a dreaded sunny day.

this week it stopped raining long enough to go check out bonaventure cemetery {finally}. i'm excited to go back again once it's warmer out.

Tuesday

with the bonnet.

a beautiful set of 3 shaker bonnets, with subtle color variations, hand folded and stitched. american, c. 1870’s - 1880’s.

ps. check back later today for a great giveaway!

the weighing one.

i've been thinking a lot about weight and weightlessness and this sculpture by michael zavros embodies both for me.

Monday

natural silhouette.

i've been thinking about sandra backlund a lot lately.

Tuesday

octet truss.

"nature's simplest structural system in the universe is the tetrahedron. the regular tetrahedron does not fill all-space by itself. the octahedron and tetrahedron complement one another to fill all space. together they produce the simplest, most powerful structural system in the universe." - buckminster fuller

i think that this is a shape/theme that is going to pop up a lot in my current work.

Monday

drop out of life.

for the past, oh, two months or so my life has been in pretty much constant turmoil. unfortunately for me, it doesn't seem to be showing any sign of stopping. every little thing just makes me want to sit in a quiet room and watch reuben margolin sculptures move forever.

Tuesday

mexicat.

vintage folk art cat sculpture with beautiful hand-painting, from modern50.

Thursday

propulsion party.

homemade rockets; it's what all the cool kids are doing!

{sorry about the side-ways-ness of the video, i got too excited to care.}

Monday

philly neon.

while doing some research for school i stumbled across the work of len davidson. a philadelphia neon sign maker/enthusiast/collector. he is also the curator of the neon history museum in philly at the new american institute of architects' headquarters at 1218 arch street, something i wish i knew had existed when i still lived there.

the pontiac indian from the old silk city diner.

sign from the old zipperhead store on south street.

animated greyhound sign.

skyline.

Saturday

james castle.

i went and saw the james castle retrospective at the pma and it was really really wonderful. i couldn't find my most favorite piece online, but he drew people with little rectangle landscapes for heads and it blew my mind. the found cardboard assembleages were also so perfect. really really wonderful.

Friday

moonlight is sculpture.

i wish that someone would somehow translate this photograph into marble. the forms are beautiful.
