Wednesday

let's hear it for the grrrls.

"You may think from these photos that I want to kill you. I do not. It is just my regular face."

long live tavi.

shadow people.

my friend ted is a cool genius and he directed this video for dr. dog. it was filmed at one of the best places on earth, the holiday skating rink. you can see a bunch of my favorite regulars and it's so beautiful that watching this makes my heart swell and my eyes well.

chantilly skeleton.

with a reminder from laia, i went back and re-checked out the amazingly beautiful givenchy couture collection and saw these great reverse shots that somehow i missed during my first look.

Saturday

dogtooth.

this was the best, weirdest, most intense movie i've seen in a while. recommended for the not-so-faint-of-heart.

Friday

2.

this one-piece dress includes three different patterns along with a neutral black back. it closes with three uranium glass buttons, has a collar created by a thin horse hair braid and a belted waist.

if you like what you see, there's a bit more over at my website!

3.

this silk dress is printed with falling dead horses and has blue LED lights along the shoulders which can be turned on by squeezing a button inside of the pocket. it is meant to literally 'give power' to the wearer. the belt is made of the same print as the leggings and features a bronze buckle with a small fire opal in the center.

4.

the tank top image is based off of this which was a reference for a never-completed tapestry weaving. the back hangs extra long and is made of a poly-silk mesh. the leggings are a silk-lycra blend done in this print and feel amazing. everything was sewn with glow-in-the-dark thread.

this is a two piece, top and skirt. the black part of the top is made of a poly-silk mesh see-thru stripe fabric and the sleeves and cape-back are of my own printed design. around the collar is a thick horse hair braid which has a nice heaviness on the shoulders. the skirt has pockets {essential} and is made of alternating panels of lighter/darker versions of the same print.

master of textiles!

for my recently completed masters thesis i explored the transformative nature of clothing and its conceivable use as a modern day fetish object. in order to do so i considered the philosophy of friedrich nietzsche's amor fati, the historical use of magic as a cure for the anxiety of life, and the semiotics of fashion, to examine how garments can act as a catalyst in altering the individual’s relationship to and view of the world. in particular i focused on the integration of opposites; beauty and tragedy, and the psychological power of materials and symbols, to understand the part that magical thinking plays in our lives. the main result of this research was the creation of a series of garments that are inherently magical and allow the wearer to simultaneously accept and repel life's tragedies.

ANYWAY, i'm so excited to finally share them with everyone! it was a lot of work, but i'm really happy about what i produced. i designed the prints {which are based off of space and cave imagery and include ghost-y horses}, and then digitally printed the silk fabric, and designed the patterns, and braided the horse hair {around the collars} and then sewed everything {a lot by hand} and then took the pictures {via self-timer} and even 'modeled' {with head removed due to lack of smizing}. WHEW. i'm going to be posting the garments throughout the morning, so stay tuned! xoxo!

Tuesday

louise bourgeois.

'art is a guarantee of sanity. that is the most important thing i have said.'

eternity.

have i mentioned before that all of my friends are geniuses?

mike fleming and alicia eggert are debuting their Eternity piece (along with other work related to time) for one night only - next friday in philadelphia at progressive sharing. the exhibition will last exactly 300 minutes. Eternity, which is written with the hands of 30 clocks, will last only one split second. i can't be there, but you should go see it fall into place at exactly 8PM!

Friday

a wee test.

this. is. cracking. me. up.

Wednesday

incantation.

i've been trying to come up with one last pattern for my thesis project. one that embodies mystical symbols without being too literal and keeping the design simple and clean. and then i see this. this is what i was seeing in my head. this is the feel that i was trying for. this evokes the magical incantation. and it is called incantation and it was designed by alvin lustig in 1947. it's strange how we can imagine and desire something that we never knew existed.

Tuesday

girl of my dreams.

this past weekend i treated myself to the new issue of lula. and how could i not seeing as it was complied exactly for me. i swear it had to of been! an interview with yayoi kusama {with accompanying horse photo}, joanna newsom in that dream of a marc jacobs dress {a double whammy}, an ode to shelley duvall, a little bit of darger, and a salute to strawberry shortcake {!!!} all wrapped up with their always amazing editorials that make me want to run away {in a good way}. luv u lula.

Wednesday

affinity.

i haven't been doing very much interneting lately, but i came across these two images a week or so ago and i can't stop thinking about them.

Thursday

summatiiiime.

i CANNOT stop listening to this song. it gives me real, actual summertime chills.

Wednesday

time. presence. performance. duration.

relation in time, 1977 {with ulay}

relation in time, 2010 {reperformance}

i also went to see the marina abramovic retrospective at the moma. i had to rush through it because i got lost getting there {a-doy} and wanted to also get to soho in time to check out team gallery and the drawing center, before they closed. even though i had such a short time i still stood mesmerized at her performance, which you can watch live here. i wish that i had enough time to stick around and participate. anyway, the show was amazing and i can't stop thinking about it.

have one on me.

fyi: this is SO GOOD. i've only listened to it all the way through once {3 lps!}, but so far it has a sort of lush ladies of the canyon vibe that i really love. i don't know if it's surpassed Ys for me, but it's still highly recommended!
