a tiny nest made by a recently discovered and rare type of bee. built by plastering together petals from the flower onobrychis viciifolia. each nest usually houses a single egg and is a half inch long.
erie basin was taking pictures of their new jewelry finds when this little spider dude showed up and demanded to be part of the shot. i love how his...moustache matches the ring!
the fantastic mr. fox was absolutely delightful! like, i was literally filled with delight. my friends and i were doing the little whistle all last night. i definitely recommend it!
i'm pretty into this shark cardigan {sharkigan} from topshop. i'm not sure if it would keep people away or draw them in, or which i would prefer. either way it'a a cozy take on the "huge animal face" trend.
Zhang Huan, ‘Zhu Gangqiang No. 10’, 2009. Ash on linen.
"in may 2008, an earthquake reaching 8.0 on the richter scale struck the sichuan province of china, killing more than 60,000 people. amidst the tragedy, there was a pig that lived, trapped, for 49 days after the quake, surviving on rainwater, rotten wood and a small amount of foraged feed. his survival was hailed as a miracle and he was given the name ‘zhu gangqiang’ (‘cast -iron -pig’). according to buddhist scripture, 49 days is the amount of time that a soul remains on earth between death and transmigration.”
the last known motion picture footage taken of a living thylacine, a now extinct carnivorous marsupial. just a few seconds of black-and-white footage of the animal pacing backwards and forwards in its enclosure, taken in 1933, three years before it's death from exposure and neglect. ugh. how could people be so terrible to a beautiful tiger-dog with a pouch??
it was one year ago that i began carving out this tiny slice of internet! thanks to everyone who came and read and commented and came back again. 365 days of sharing amazing things - and here's to 365 more! xoxo
