Thursday

tour de face.

this years tour de france is almost at an end. it's pretty much the only sporting event that i care about, maybe because it does only last a month. i'm so excited to watch the finale this weekend. go garmin! go thor!

Wednesday

attention san francisco!

my friend took a picture of this billboard at valencia and guerrero off of 16th in s.f. and I WANT IT. while it's pretty impractical for me to get a billboard shipped across country, i'd at least like to know who the artist is, so that i may harass them into making prints of it!!!

Monday

can't stop, won't stop.

this is how i feel this morning.

Sunday

light lane!

this is the COOLEST! light lane projects a crisply defined virtual bike lane onto pavement, using a laser, providing the driver with a familiar boundary to avoid. with a wider margin of safety, bikers will regain their confidence to ride at night, making the bike a more viable commuting alternative. it still seems to be in the brainstorming stage, but i'd sure like one. riding around in savannah at night can be pretty unsafe due to the lack of established bike lanes, minmal street lights and the huge overhanging trees and this looks like a fun fix!

Saturday

london caling.

this painting by andrew hem makes me want to go back to london and ride a bike to trafalgar square and spend the entire day at the national gallery.

Tuesday

for your bike obsessed boyfriend...

who you're trying to trick into reading more:

the classic 1978 novel the rider by dutch writer tim krabbé. it chronicles the 137 kilometre tour de mont aigoual, a course through the mountains that is known as one of the cruellest stages of the tour de france. if that doesn't get him reading, nothin' will.

Tuesday

successful living.

a nice print with a nice message by nick dewar available over at thumbtack press.

Friday

beauty & brains.

color coded rainbow allen wrench set by swiss tools.

Tuesday

cycle chic.

i love riding my bike in high heels and so does this fancy lady from copenhagen cycle chic.

Monday

campionissimo.

the tour de france 2008 began this weekend and if you've never watched it before i suggest you try and catch a few stages. you can watch videos on the website and keep updated on who's in the running for le maillot jaune. known as 'the champion of the champions, fausto coppi won the yellow jersey twice and was {maybe} the lance armstrong of his day. i love this picture of him in his bianchi jersey. you can get your own in the classic 'celeste' color {which is prettier than yellow anyway} from prendas uk.

Tuesday

barry's bike.

i like bikes, i like my bike, and i like looking at cool bikes, but i don't really know too much about them. what i do know is that the pretty ones tend to cost a lot. and i know that there are going to be a lot of pretty and expensive bikes at the upcoming "pressure" art exhibition put on by cinelli bikes and RVCA. the first frame being released is by barry mcgee, with other designs following by ashley macomber, clare rojas, c.r. stecyk III, dan murphy, DMOTE, jesse geller, josh lazcano, KAWS, madsaki, phil frost, pm tenore and stephen powers. each set is limited to 50 with 25 complete bikes at $3,700 and 25 frame-only kits at $2,100. yikes. i'm really excited to see clare rojas' contribution because i really like her work.

Thursday

life during blogtime.

uh, how come no one told me that david byrne had a blog? he talks about art, design, music, politics, bikes, traveling and hanging out with paul simon! what's not to love?! also i suggest checking out his collection of mental maps/drawings in arboretum, available through mcsweeny's

Friday

cruisin'

i already own a beautiful bike, but these cycles are so alluring it makes me want to have a back-up cruiser. {even though i'm sure they are heavy as sin.}

first off, as i love the netherlands the best; jorg & olif's dutch city bike, sweetly named "scout".

next, from italy, the "granturismo" by abici.

and a something with a little more flare from great britain, the pashley "tube runner" in double scoop. mmmm. that one is my favorite!
